China Confirms Its First 3 Cases Of Bird Flu Infecting People
About:
The World Health Organization raves about China’s ability to react to disease. The WHO comments on their progress in 2003 dealing with SARS (Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and currently dealing with Bird Flu. China announced that they were going to vaccinate 5.2 billion chickens, as well as other poultry. China reacts intensely to the possible pandemic, and is going to the extreme. They have requested that all infectious diseases should be reported. They have even confirmed that they are receiving 10 thousand reports a day, and say that they have reviewed each one.
Although there have been several confirmed cases of infected birds, China has recently confirmed three infected humans. One was a woman in her mid-twenties, but the other two cases are considered to be more helpful. Scientists are concerned that one of the siblings retrieved it from the other. This would cause a belief that Avian Flu can be passed from human to human, and become a pandemic.
Thoughts:
Seeing China act so quickly makes me wish that our country could do the same. When a tsunami pummeled our country, we sat back and watched for a few days. However China in reaction of bird flu worked quickly. This shows that China is there for it’s people, and in this case it’s birds as well.
China is the fifth country to have confirmed bird flu in humans. Other countries consist of Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. They have each had a different number of cases, and fatalities. Vietnam has had the most and China coming in fifth has the least. All together there has been a reported 128 cases and 65 of them have been fatal. China has given the WHO, countries around the world, and myself hope concerning bird flu. They have shown a great example on how to react during an emergency, and how to react when something threatens their country.
