I had a very frustrating experience in my English 105 class this week. Our first paper was due and I was really excited to turn mine in because I had worked really hard on it. I had revised my paper three times and had even taken it to the writing center. Needless to say, when my paper was handed back with a “B” at the top of it, I was more than disappointed. I was disappointed with the grade, but I was more disappointed with what wasn't on the paper. It was completely blank. How am I supposed to improve on something when I don’t know what I did wrong? I made an appointment to meet with my professor so that we can discuss it and what I did wrong. We only have one other paper for this class and I really don’t want to make the same mistakes on that one as I did on this paper.
However, I did have a very rewarding experience during a speech club meeting. I am the secretary of the speech club this year and the officers wanted to meet and talk about what we (the club) would like to do this year. The president and vice president of the club are seniors in the speech communications major. Throughout the meeting, I had the opportunity to ask them questions about the major, the professors and how they plan to use this major after they graduate. It was really interesting and very helpful. I have been very confused about a lot of things regarding my major and what classes I should be taking. The girls were so helpful. I am really excited to know that I have someone to go to if I need help or have questions about my classes.
