RIOTING SPREADS IN PARIS SUBURBS AS ANGRY YOUTHS BURN MORE CARS
Angry youth in Paris suburbs have been violent towards the community since the accidental death of two teenagers. Gangs have torched more than 200 cars in the past week, fired gunshots at police officers and firefighters, ransacked a police station, set on fire a garage and shopping center and vandalized two schools just to name a few. Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin canceled a trip to Canada because of the violence and has urged citizens and the police to restore order. The two teenagers were electrocuted by a power transformer while hiding from police. Local youths believe that police chased the boys into the transformer’s enclosure, which the government denies happened. Youth took to the streets in protest. Police have used tear gas and rubber bullets to repel the attacks. What I do not understand is why the government can not control the violence that is going on in their community. For this continuous violence to have lasted for over a week is crazy. The government has the authority to take control of incidences like this by using their power and weapons. This just shows the respect the youth have for their government and authority figures.

Major Offensive Hits Insurgents on Iraqi Border
American and Iraqi troops attacked a town near the Syrian border this Saturday. It was one of the biggest assaults since last year. The goal of the offensive was to stop the movement of the enemy along the Euphrates River. The Marine led attack had a total of 2,500 American troops and 1,000 Iraqi soldiers were involved. Soldiers were on foot and in vehicles. Insurgents fired on troops from all sides but only two were injured in the taking over of two blocks of the town. Setting camp for the night gunfire and mortar rounds could be heard outside. The attack will continue until the job of cleaning the town of the insurgents is completed. The insurgents grasp on Iraq is ever decreasing and the ultimate task of giving freedom to Iraq is almost done.
