Step Two: Editing

  • Once you have successfully registered and been added to the Wiki community you will have the ability to edit. It is necessary that you take part in the editing process if you plan on becoming active in the Wiki community.

  • All you need to do to edit a page is to click on the edit tab found at the top or bottom left, of any Wiki page. You will be required to enter your login name and password, which will be the same as the ones you registered earlier. After you login, you will be taken to the edit page. This page will contain the text of the page you want to edit, as well as the coding that makes colors, and graphics possible.

  • A good way to test out the editing capabilities is in the SandBox. The SandBox is a virtual page where you can edit without the worry of defacing a page.

  • For basic coding, or formatting help, simply scroll down when you are in any edit page. There will be a list of basic formatting tools such as bold = *bold*, italics = _italics_, and so on. If you look to the bottom of any edit page you can also see a link to "More formatting help". This should be able to help you with any other questions you might have regarding editing issues.

  • When editing, it is important to remember that the Wiki is a privilege. Defacing others work will not be tolerated, and could result in having your editing privileges revoked. The communal atmosphere of Wiki offers many benefits, and if you use these benefits to the betterment of the community you will be rewarded.

Here are some possible reasons to edit a page.

  • You have a new subject (more about this in creating a Wiki page).

  • You have new information about an existing subject.

  • You have more reliable information on a subject than what is already provided.

  • You have a more clear, or succinct way to express an idea than is already provided.
